A friend's cypress tree needed to be removed from their back yard in San Francisco. They saved me a couple logs to make furniture. There was enough wood to make the sides and tops of these two blanket chests. The legs are scrap padauk and the frames are walnut. The bottoms are lined with Tennessee aromatic cedar. The joinery is all mortise and tenon. The mortises are pegged with padauk on the top. The panels are free floating to account for seasonal wood movement. The hinges are torsion hinges to allow for soft closing. Dimensions are 33" long by 22" wide by 24" high. The chests are heavy, about 100 pounds. There are only 2 available, and there is no more of the cypress from San Francisco available. I could make a similar design out of other wood, either solid wood or plywood to save money, but these two are unique.

For tim's 3 drawers to put into existing built in alcove.Michael is absolutely awesome!!! Could not be happier with our experience with Michael or custom made. I'll go into more detail below but here's the summary- Michael is a true expert and an excellent communicator and we would be so lucky to work with him again. Our project turned out unbelievable and the best part of working with Michael was he installed the project onsite and is absolutely gorgeous! Communication - It was very clear from the start that Michael played at a higher level than a lot of the other people we interacted with. He asked detailed and thoughtful questions and when we asked for his expertise he was very helpful and insightful and he was extremely patience throughout the entire process. Expertise - Michael is an expert. Period. He helped us figure out exactly what we wanted and the end project is better than what we could have ever hoped for. Value - Perfect. We got a lifetime piece and paid a very fair price. The key was Michael came onsite (twice!) to install the drawer system we wanted. There were other bids that were cheaper but that did not cover installation, totally worth going with an expert to build and install the entire project. I'll post pictures soon.
