This piece was inspired by the idea of communal seating. The idea was to create a unique piece of furniture that was both a reflection on being a chair and a bench. The current material used is alder. The style was in part based on shaker furniture as well as other American furniture makers like Esherick and Maloof. For future pieces, the Chench can be made in hardwoods like ash, walnut or maple.
