Wild, Wild Horses Live Edge Coffee Table

$450

I saw a piece of fabric in a shop that had a design of wild horses running across a desert plain. I'm somewhat of a cowboy at heart and I wanted to show that image in wood as a conversation piece coffee table. I laid out the cloth, hand drew the image on a slab of spruce, hand carved and burnt the image into the surface, then sanded it smooth leaving the recessed, burnt image. It's a technique I have developed over the years to place basically any image on a wood substrate and capture its presence in the wood. The top is a piece of Lancaster County (PA) spruce from a tree that had been lightning struck (notice the 'crack' in one end). The legs are western red cedar and are canted to provide a solid, sturdy base for the top. Dimensions : 64"L x 23"W x 14"H; 2" thick live edge top This piece was intended for a living room with rustic decor but it would easily fit in a large bedroom at the end of a log bed serving as a bench. I tend to not use stains but favor natural finishes but have stained pieces in the past as requested. It has a simple polyurethane and beeswax finish. My [personal preference is a natural finish that is human and pet friendly such as linseed oil covered with beeswax. It provides a sort of glow that allows the natural beauty of the wood to shine thru but also provides a durable finish that can take the rigors of use from a dropped toy to a hot cup of coffee.
