Like most woodworkers, I have constructed many things over the years. Locally I still create most anything my clients request. On a wider level, I have developed a following of clients who require display and storage of unique or valuable items. These creations include chests of drawers, desks, armoires, dressing tables, custom work surfaces, personal and retail displays, chests and carrying cases.
I approach these projects from two ways. The first approach is to create an heirloom. An object that will function as the client intends but, in itself, will also be a show piece. These most often store things like jewelry, watches, pens, knives, guns, fishing equipment, quilts and other collectibles. They often contain many drawers which may have custom interiors.
The second approach is to create daily functionality. Again, it must fit the clients purpose but is more to stand up to daily use an abuse. These may fill the same function as the first approach but aren't meant to be passed on to the next generation. These may be for home, retail or commercial application.
