Natural Edge Red Pine Slab Shelf With Custom Brackets

$220

The slab for a rustic shelf like the one pictured is cut from Red Pine logs that were harvested in northwestern Wisconsin. The bluish-gray tint in the wood is called blue stain, which gives a very unique look to the wood and is a very attractive compliment to the natural edge of the slab. The shelf pictured has a slab that is 2" thick and is 35" in length. The price for a shelf like this is $220. Contact me for custom sizes and prices. The brackets are cut from the same material and the branch support is made from a Red Pine branch. Both bracket and branch have been hand peeled to enhance the rustic character of the piece. Sanded smooth with three coats of semi-gloss water-based polyurethane are applied to finish this piece and protect it for years and years. The overall dimensions of this piece are: Length: 35" Height: 9" overall (slab is 1-1/2" thick) Width: 9" (approximate due to variations in natural edge) Custom sizes also available upon request. Along the Ridge is a small business located in west-central Wisconsin that specializes in rustic wooden frames and a variety of unique wooden items.

Red Pine, harvested and cut at a local mill in northwest Wisconsin, is the primary lumber used due to the beautiful blue staining created by Mother Nature.

I like to keep the natural edges when working with wood and this means that no two pieces will ever be identical. Each piece offers its own unique grain pattern, tint, and edge design and I try to incorporate everything the wood has to offer to make a piece that is equally functional and welcoming to the eye.

A couple of years ago I heard some advice from a friend who said, "Quit saying how much you'd like to be a woodworker and be a woodworker already."

So I did.
