This contemporary framed mirror is made of cherry wood that has a unique story. The slabs that this frame came from were processed from the cores of premium grade Cherry trees that are used to make Cherry veneer in northwestern Wisconsin. The manufacturer of the veneer pays top dollar for Cherry trees that are cut into four foot sections, debarked, turned on an enormous lathe so they are perfectly cylindrical, soaked in water for days, and then put back on the lathe where a razor sharp blade basically "peels" the log into a veneer that is 1/57" thick. It is literally paper thin. Once the core gets to a point where the blade can't get ay closer, or they encounter a knot, the rest of the core is sent to a mill to be processed into slabs. That's where this frame comes into play. The rectangular frame is capped with a three-tier system of cove molding, square molding, and a 2-1/2" top shelf that to give a feeling of added height to this piece. The edges of the frame have a light cove profile to add depth and style. The entire frame has a natural color Danish oil applied to offer years and years of protection. A 1/4" thick mirror will be installed, a hardboard backing will protect your mirror, and a wall hanging kit will be provided for ease of installation. This frame measures: 28-3/16" (H) 19-3/8" (W) 2-1/2" (D) The interior section of the frame measures: 21-1/2" (H) 12" (W) One thing to definitely consider when purchasing a product made of Cherry such as this one is that Cherry will continue to darken over time. What starts out as a natural and beautiful amber color will gradually change to a rich brownish hue as it ages. The frame you receive will not necessarily be the frame you see in the photo, but will be similar to the one you see. Custom sizes are available so please contact me with the dimensions you'd like your to be built at and I will give you a price. Thanks for looking, and if this is something you could see as hallway mirror, bedroom mirror, bathroom mirror, or any other room you choose I'd be happy to see that become a reality for you. Along the Ridge is a small business located in west-central Wisconsin that specializes in rustic wooden frames and a variety of unique wooden items.
Red Pine, harvested and cut at a local mill in northwest Wisconsin, is the primary lumber used due to the beautiful blue staining created by Mother Nature.
I like to keep the natural edges when working with wood and this means that no two pieces will ever be identical. Each piece offers its own unique grain pattern, tint, and edge design and I try to incorporate everything the wood has to offer to make a piece that is equally functional and welcoming to the eye.
A couple of years ago I heard some advice from a friend who said, "Quit saying how much you'd like to be a woodworker and be a woodworker already."
So I did.
