Bicycle Guitar

$500

I made a version of a guitar strictly out of pieces of bicycles. There are a variety of gears and sprockets which make up the body. The neck is from the tube of a BMX bike. The head is off the rear/seat mount from an old ten speed. I even used two different gauge wires from brakes and shift controls as the strings. The string tensioners are from seat clamps. The lever is off a kick stand. The lever has been bolted on and can be removed if desired. Everything else has been TIG welded together. I sand blasted everything and then coated it with several layers of clear coat paint. This is about 36 inches long, 12 inches wide and about 2 inches deep. It would be a great gift for a bicycler, guitar player, or music lover. In October 2013 I attended the Newport News, Virginia Fall Festival of Folklife and this item helped my booth to win the blue ribbon in "Best Folk Art" and it was selected as the best item there and resulted in the "Best in Show". The judge for the show was Nancy Thomas who has had her work appear in magazines, books, films, TV, as well as in Colonial Williamsburg, the Museum of American Folk Art and the White House.

I am a retired Army Engineer Diver and reside near Fredericksburg, VA. I have been working with wood or metal for over 30 years. I enjoy looking at a piece of material and seeing what it can be changed into instead of its original purpose.

I make unique items out of scuba diving tanks, scrap metal, and anything I can find so that I re-purpose, re-use or recycle as much material as possible. My goal is to have 90% of the material in my projects be items that were destined for the scrap yard or trash.

Whether it is a one of a kind engraved scuba tank, abstract sculpture, lamp, or piece of yard art, please allow me to work with you to make your vision come to life.
