Letterpress Type Cufflinks

$75

Each piece of my letterpress type jewelry is made by hand, with "pied type" which is type destined for the scrap yard. Due to the nature of the material, each piece is one of a kind. Letters are hand cut to the proper depth and set one by one with tweezers to create the puzzle like pieces of jewelry. These cufflinks are 1" x 1" square.

Located in the historic mill town of New Bedford Massachusetts, Headcase Press was established in 2009. The one-woman letterpress shop situated in a 100 -year-old former textile mill, is run by the printer, designer and owner Nicole Monforti-Hoshi whose love of modern design and passion for history found expression in letterpress printing and jewelry made from letterpress printing materials. Marrying the old and the new, I utilize antique metal and wood type and traditional printing methods to create modern, dynamic designs on vintage equipment. All printing is done on one of three letterpresses: a 1916 Chandler & Price platen, a mid 1940’s Heidelberg windmill, and a 1953 Kelsey tabletop press. Combining varied interests, I've branched out form solely printing and have created a line of one of a kind jewelry made from recycled scrap letterpress type. I strive to push the boundaries of the craft and utilize both the methods and the materials of letterpress printing traditionally, and innovatively.
