Farm Or Harvest Table

$1,500

This client needed a farm table to go into the dining room of their recently renovated 18th century farmhouse. I had recently acquired some 2" thick reclaimed pumpkin pine boards from a barn in Lee that were in pretty tough shape. The client wanted rustic, so I removed all the nails and skip-planed the boards. There was a large area is severe decay in the middle, so I routed it out and laid in a Dutchman at a slight angle. This gives the table an impressive conversation point. I then fastened the boards together and added an opposing end board with a full end-stopped mortise and tenon. I used hardware salvaged from the board to tie in the end breadboards. The main table is six feet long by three feet wide and their are two 12" company leaves. The legs are tapered and are made of oak, as is the balance of the skirt and table support system. I applied several coats of boiled linseed oil to the top to fill in voids and to stiffen loose fibers. The owner finished up with Danish oil. The owner applied a five step finish process to the undercarriage and legs, resulting in a great antique looking finish.
