This unique Abstract Expressionism In Furniture™ Exotic Wood Console Table was designed to be functional yet at the same time represent the Abstract Expressionism movement of the 1940's and 1950's. To achieve this, we used the maple veneer as a freshly gessoed canvas and the inlayed wood to be the ''paint'' on that canvas. This console table would look beautiful in any entry way or living space in any home or place of business. Materials used: Locally harvested figured hard and soft maple and a combination of "old stock" and small fragments of exotic hardwoods specially cut into 1/8" veneer to include: Macassar Ebony Diospyrus ebenum, Bocote Cordia , Indonesian Rosewood Dalbergia latifolia, Black and White Ebony Diospyros embryopteris, Honduran Rosewood Dalbergia latifolia, Goncalo Alves Astronium graveoles, Ziricote Cordia dodecandra, East Indian Rosewood Dalbergia latifolia, Bubinga Guibourtia demeusei, European cherry Prunus avium, and Ceylon Ebony Diospyros ebenum. About Us
At Art in Furniture by Schuettinger, we create custom wood furniture and also a focus on multiple art movement expressions in furniture by "painting" with wood using traditional and meticulous hand-craftsmanship.
About Our Work
We practice environmentally conscientious practices when working on projects -- utilizing downed trees and old stock wood that others may not consider using.
Our wood designs include a homage to George Nakashima, abstract expressionism and abstract illusionism. We excel in designing and creating reproductions of period and historic furniture and work closely with a furniture conservationist in using similar methods.
Bruce Schuettinger, lead furniture designer and furniture maker, is also a nationally known furniture and antiques conservator. He holds over 30 years of experience in woodworking and art.
The Art in Furniture woodworking studio is located in Historic New Market, Md., but we work with clients throughout the United States.
