The Sling Chair: A Hand-Crafted Oak And Leather Lounger

$1,995

The Sling Chair is a timelessly classic design which lithely holds you in a comforting embrace as you wile away a few hours with a good book or a fine Scotch whiskey. A matching foot stool is also available. Please look for that listing, too. The Oak and leather are locally-sourced Maine materials. All joints are hand-crafted mortise and tenon. With the removal of a few pegs, the entire chair can be taken apart for shipment and then re-assembled with only a household hammer or mallet in a matter of minutes by somebody with no woodworking experience. The leather chair bottom and back are similarly held in place by wooden pegs for ease of assembly. Shipment via UPS is free anywhere in the U.S.

I am a wooden boat builder and furniture maker on the Mid Coat of Maine. I am drawn to modern design, particularly Scandinavian modern, which is made beautiful through restraint, simplicity, and functionality, like the wooden boats native to this area. I prefer to use woods native to Maine, like Oak, Cherry and Ash, which I select and harvest off a large family woodlot in order to control quality. All of my pieces employ traditional hand-cut joinery, such as dovetails and mortise and tenon, while the designs are contemporary. This combination of old techniques and modern design ensures that the furniture will last for generations and remain timeless.
