This chair was a labor of love that took a lot longer than I thought to make. I have tremendous respect and admiration for 20th century artists and am contemplating a series of chairs dedicated to various artists. This chair was inspired by the various chairs made by Jean Dubuffet. It is functional art, it can be sat upon and will support a tremendous range of sizes and shapes of rear ends. It is made ergonomically according to established sizes of most dining chairs, the seat is 17.5 inches from the floor and the back rest stands 34 inches tall. The seat and back rest are about 12 inches wide. The chair itself is made from 'stack laminated' plywood in the method established by Wendell Castle, shaped on my band saw and epoxied and screwed together, very strong construction. I painted and decorated this with a variety of materials including various paints including textured paint, fluorescent paint, various types of markers, and finally protected with 5 coats of lacquer. Every square inch is decorated! I kind of went with Dubuffet's method of coloring with lines within spaces on the front, on the back I went more with a surreal giraffe theme of coloring, with a few polka dots interspersed. This is original, one of a kind artwork! I will be coming out with additional chairs in the weeks to come, stay tuned. If you would like a set of a certain type of chairs please contact me, additionally I could make a matching table if you desire.

I have been doing sculpture in different media for around 20 years and focusing more on woodwork lately. My specialty is carved wood furniture, ceramic flowers and now I'm starting to make some unique lighting fixtures/chandeliers.
I have a bachelor's degree in Business and am widely traveled, and have lived overseas in many countries so I have seen many different forms of artwork worldwide.
I was previously known as an electronics technician so I am beginning to add lighting to some of my projects. I am attempting to create a niche with custom music stands and carved end tables. I am skilled at cabinetmaking but prefer to make sculptural furniture, things with curves are much easier for me to make somehow. A few of the artists and woodworkers I consider to be strong influences in my life include Sam Maloof, Wendell Castle and Isamu Noguchi.
