Figured Walnut Mantle Beam - 13'6

$3,500

I recently did a mantle job for a customer. I had to purchase an extra wide beam to get the dimensions he wanted. I cut the board basically in half, so I now have another walnut mantle available. The dimensions on this beam are: 4-1/4" x 2-3/4" x 13'10". Finding walnut - especially figured walnut - in these dimensions is almost impossible. The board is kiln dried and ready for smoothing and finishing. I will include pictures of both the customer beam finished with tung oil and also the beam that I still have. They will look very similar as I cut the board in 1/2 to make the customer beam. I can either sell you the "raw" beam that you would do some planing and sanding to OR I can prepare the beam for whatever finish you would like to use. If you are within a 300 mile radius of me in Berkley, MI I'm willing to deliver this beam for a charge. Please feel free to contact me regarding this option.

About Me'
I'm a teacher and furniture maker. I split my time between instructing young students on cello and violin (Suzuki) and making furniture at my workshop.

I have a fully equipped industrial level workshop that can handle pretty much any needs in terms of processing solid wood. My equipment is listed below:

24" Oliver planer
16" Northfield jointer
30" Yates American bandsaw
20" Yates American bandsaw
16" Whitney 177 tablesaw
Griggio slot mortiser
Wadkin RS patternmakers lathe
24" Master disc sander
Master oscillating spindle sander
Wysong and Miles hollow chisel mortiser
Williams and Hussey moulder

'About My Work'
My work is largely Mid Century Modern inspired with an emphasis on quality construction and time tested methods. For the most part I use two main types of joinery - dovetails and mortise/tenon. These joints take more time to cut than many others, but they are the strongest and give the best outcome, so they are the only types that I use.

My goal is always to build something that will last generations. I don't subscribe to the "disposable" furniture ideals of businesses like Ikea.

I only use solid wood - no particleboard or plywood - and I cut most of the lumber I use from the locally sourced logs that would otherwise be turned into firewood.

I take great pride in the pieces that I make and look forward to working with you to build something beautiful.

Thanks!
Matt
