Recolonization

$1,500

Originally displayed at (e)merge Art Fair 2014 24' x 10' x 5' Wood, Plaster, Foam, Resin, Paint, Natural Materials ReColonization is an installation that mimics a broken and decaying section of wall. Inspired by Alan Weisman's "The World without Us." The piece shows the viewer what their immediate environment would look like without continued human intervention. Everything around us has been maintained for us and by us, but without us, most if not all of it will quickly be subsumed and destroyed. Smaller variations similar to this piece can be commissioned on an individual basis.

Joshua Bennett holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from from Virginia Commonwealth University. While there he was the recipient of a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship among other awards. After receiving his degree he went on to work as a set builder on Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln," AMC's "Turn" and numerous theatrical productions. His experience as a prop-maker and set-builder along with his education in fine art make him a multi-talented and dynamic creator, ready to design or build with equal proficiency.

Joshua's work bridges a variety of genres: set-design, furniture design, large outdoor sculpture and more. His use of materials is equally varied: ranging from foam and resin to steel and wood. In his own words, he works in the medium he needs to. His love of making extends to his private life, where he maintains an extensive collection of vintage how-to books and manuals.
