Handcrafted Shaker Sweeper

$125

Where traditional Besom brooms had always been round, the Shaker Sweeper Broomcorn is pressed tight between a wooden vice so it can be sewn flat & then trimmed off straight across the bottom for greater sweeping coverage. This new broom design originated in America during the early 1800s in the Shaker Communities of upstate New York. Product Description Freshly harvested stalks of broomcorn are hand-plaited without the use of any machinery, just as they were made at the turn of the century in the early 1800s. We then hand-stitch the heads flat & trim the base straight across the bottom in the Shaker tradition. Our sweepers are fashioned onto custom hand-finished hardwood handles made from local, sustainable & ecologically harvested timber. This Sweeper features a Large size broom head on hand-finished hardwood handle. A leather hanging strap allows for proper care of your broom. CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: All materials used in Organic Artist Tree products are natural, sustainable, renewable, recycled, ecologically harvested or derived from weedy or invasive organic materials. No plants or animals are damaged or harmed in in the manufacturing of our products.

ARTIST STATEMENT
When I follow my bliss, it always leads me to The Great Outdoors. In Nature, I find the inspiration, materials and a state of well-being; all of which coalesce into the creation of my Art. Living in the Appalachian Mountains, I’m surrounded by a rich history of time-honored traditions and a legacy of handcraft. To me, historic handcrafts embolden a greater simplicity and a deeper connection to Nature, so I naturally gravitate to the olde-tymey way of doing things.

For me, “Art is Life”, so I strive to use sustainable, renewable resources, and materials that are “alive”. I work in tandem with Mother Nature, collaborating respectfully in the creation of our work; acknowledging the divine intelligence in all things, and revealing our oneness with the Earth and with each other.
