Heirloom Wedding Broom

$500

Product Description The BROOM has long been a significant part of traditional WEDDING ceremonies, seen commonly used by many diverse cultures: sweeping across Welsh, British, Celtic, Druid & Gypsy traditions as well as in ancient African, Aboriginal, Pagan & Shamanistic rites. Regarded as sacred, commonly used to purify spaces for rituals, at Wedding ceremonies, guests would wave the broom over the heads of the couple to sweep away their past, clearing a fresh path to newly-wedded bliss. The wedding ceremony always culminates with some variation of the marital couple jumping over the broomstick (always noting that whomever jumps highest will be the decision maker in the family). The wedding broom symbolizes the elements of a strong matrimonial alliance. The hardwood handle represents the strong roots of the family tree. The black & white cords depict the balance of light & dark, yin & yang, masculine and feminine. The merging of dual broom heads represents the joining of two families into one. The straws of the broom stand for the many fruits that will be born from their union, and the stitching signifies the ties that bind the couple together, as lovers 'tie the knot'. Hung next to or over an entrance, the broom is believed to safeguard the couples new household, protecting them from any negative energies that may attempt to enter the home & ensuring them health, wealth & happiness all their days. ~ M. Hendry Organic Artist Tree handcrafts each custom heirloom WEDDING BROOM to order, specially selecting the ideal piece of wood to symbolize the strong roots of a solid union. ARTIST STATEMENT
When I follow my bliss, it always leads me to The Great Outdoors. In Nature, I find the inspiration, materials and a state of well-being; all of which coalesce into the creation of my Art. Living in the Appalachian Mountains, I’m surrounded by a rich history of time-honored traditions and a legacy of handcraft. To me, historic handcrafts embolden a greater simplicity and a deeper connection to Nature, so I naturally gravitate to the olde-tymey way of doing things.

For me, “Art is Life”, so I strive to use sustainable, renewable resources, and materials that are “alive”. I work in tandem with Mother Nature, collaborating respectfully in the creation of our work; acknowledging the divine intelligence in all things, and revealing our oneness with the Earth and with each other.
