This natural wood live edge dining table is gorgeous! The top consists of a bookmatched set of walnut slabs that were sustainably sourced in Anderson County, KY. They've been planed, sanded smooth and meticulously finished to withstand heat, moisture and elbows (with an environmentally friendly varnish)! The wood has beautiful figuring, grains, chatoyance and colors. The tones switch from dark browns and black to caramel, tan and bronze. The shape of this table is out of this world and in a way mimics an hourglass silhouette. The bases are 3" square tubes composed of raw steel that have been finished in a flat black. Combined, the beautiful top and the dark u-shape bases compliment each other with a sophisticated juxtaposition of nature and industrialism. While built to be used as a dining table, this piece would also work fantastically as a writing desk or functional computer desk. The finished piece measures: 82 1/8" L x 33" avg W (27" min and 35 3/4" max) x 30" H. The slab top is around 1 3/4" thick. Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.
Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
