Large Tree Slice Coffee Table- Live Edge Table- Round Coffee Table- Natural Edges- Crosscut Slab

$2,800

This large live edge coffee table was made from an amazing tree slice (aka: cookie, crosscut, log slice, log round) of Elm! The massive reclaimed wood slab came off of a tree that once stood in Frankfort, Kentucky. Instead of burning or filling up the landfill with this gigantic urban reclaimed log, my friend (an arborist and sawyer that took the tree down) put forth the effort to salvage a portion of the this 100+ year old giant. Not only is this slab of wood extremely large for the region, but it is also unique in shape. Instead of the usual 'round' shape found in most crosscuts, this one features a unique form similar to a butterfly or starfish. The amount of curvatures found along the natural edges of this piece are fascinating and are truly nature at its best! The top also consists of a variance of colors from tan, to brown, to chocolate, to gold and even some black line spalting. The wood has been flattened, sanded smooth and finished in an oil and satin poly combo. The top rests on four tapered steel legs that have been completed in an Industrial finish (low sheen black and gray) and clear coated for protection. The feet of the legs have discs and I will include felt pads to protect your floors. All in all, this twist on a log table is a wonderful mix of modernism, organic beauty, nature and industrial flavor. The finished piece measures approximately 53" L x 37" W x 16 1/2" H. The slab of wood itself is around 2 1/2" thick. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to request additional photographs.

Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.

Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
