his gray live edge coffee table is an outstanding blend of organic beauty of natural wood and industrial design. The top is a solid live edge slab of Ambrosia Maple. It was flattened, sanded smooth and tinted a strong gray color (yet wood grains are still visible), before being finished in multiple coats of a satin poly. The satin poly was rubbed out to a matte finish and feels like glass. The natural edges are tinted black, just enough to allow the grays to pop out along the thick edges. The top is a solid 3" thick and has minimal drying checks (cracks). The top is fitted to 3 tapered folded steel legs that have been clear coated for protection. The legs feature disc feet and felt pads will be provided to protect flooring. This coffee table is ready to ship and will compliment any interior space from modern to rustic. Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.
Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
