Reclaimed Wood & Steel Desk - 3 Drawers, Douglas Fir
Beautiful top constructed of reclaimed Douglas Fir, harvested from an old building outside of Portland. I was careful to salvage the original saw marks on the wood, which gives this piece so much character and history. The top has been carefully sealed to protect the wood and ensure the desk can take a beating over the years, while still maintaining the rustic and rough-hewn vibrancy of the Douglas Fir. The frame is constructed of steel, which I welded, sanded and then finished with a simple oil. The drawer pulls are also custom, handmade and welded from reclaimed steel. Each drawer is set in soft-close tracks, and opens/closes smoothly.

I make custom furniture, art and structures using steel and iron, often coupled with wood accents for a rustic aesthetic and artisan design that is completely unique for each customer. My art combines reclaimed and recycled wood and steel, which are locally-sourced wherever possible.
Whether you have a specific design or just a rough idea, my job is to create the piece that is perfect for you. I have worked with both residential and commercial clients to design and fabricate coffee tables, bookshelves, entry tables, ornate fences, wine racks, custom commissioned art and statement pieces, garden arbors and more.
I have been working with metal and wood for over a decade, having trained as a metal artist during college. What started as a hobby has flourished into a passion, and I look forward to every new creation I am commissioned to build.

Cody's communication was excellent, he was able to take my random thoughts and create a cohesive idea and give it life, and finally the finished product is simply spectacular and exceeded our expectations. My biggest fear is that the pictures will not do the quality of the work the justice that the piece and Cody deserve. I cannot recommend Cody high enough and I am already thinking about the next piece we are going to need. I was absolutely skeptical about using this website and undergoing this process however I cannot imagine buying anything mass produced again. I have something that no one else has, is a true work of art, and is built to last. For Matching end tables for living room.5.0It's very typical for someone to give 5 stars on a review whether it be for a product or a service. It looks very bland in my opinion, but let me explain why I gave the very deserving 512metalworks 5 stars across the board. I'm going to break down the reviews based on the 6 categories that are represented. First is Timeliness. I gave 5 stars based on the fact that this could have easily been a 2 to 3 week project, I wanted the product done in a week and Cody did just that. Second is communication. There was at no point any confusion on what I wanted and expected. Cody knew exactly what to make from the finish on the metal to the finish on the wood. Third is professionalism. Taking time out of his own busy schedule, Cody stopped by my house to inspect the existing coffee table to make sure the end tables would match it. (I'm actually in the works with cody to replace the coffee table with a creation by him.) Fourth is expertise. His knowledge of welding and woodcraft (from what I can see) is bar none. He exceeded my expectations of what I was going to get. Fifth is shipping/delivery. This one is hard to review only because I live close to 512metalworks. The delivery was at no charge which was great, but I can not speak for everyone on that. I'm assuming harges may vary based on distance and size of product. Last but not least is value. As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." I believe for the product I received, I should have paid a lot more. A WHOLE LOT MORE. In closing I'd like to say I chose 512metalworks solely based on the fact that metalwork AND woodwork was Cody's specialty. It's hard to find someone who can do both well and he does them both VERY well. I look forward the the projects I have done from 512metalworks in the future! Jon
