Who works at Jay Custom Furnishings?

Hello, my name is Travis Richards and I'm the craftsman at Jay Custom Furnishings. As you may have guessed by the name, I'm proud to be a native and lifelong resident of Jay County, Indiana. I love my life here with my wife and daughters, living in the heart of the heartland. My passion is designing and building custom furniture that you can't get in big box stores. In my spare time I like to spend time with my family, garden, and listen to bluegrass music. I am also a deacon at West Walnut Church of Christ where I have attended my entire life. My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

How did Jay Custom Furnishings come to be?

My interest in woodworking goes back to childhood. My dad taught me the basics in his shop and I entered 4H. I was lucky enough to make it to state fair a couple times. As I grew up, woodworking sank pretty low on my list. Occasionally, I would make something for my family, but didn't focus much time on it. Years passed and Mom decided to remodel. I spent many hours working on the house and building new furniture to fill it. Through that process the bug had finally bitten and I made my public debut. As the business grew, I started looking for a location to meet with customers and have a showroom. In July 2014 my wife moved her beauty shop, Niki's, to a new location with enough space for me to have a showroom and meeting space and we haven't looked back!
