Live Edge Maple Slab Bar
This unique maple slab is 8 1/2' long and 12"-16" wide. Since I had to cut out for the wall I used the cutout for a floating shelf. The top is where two trunks grew closely together so I used clear epoxy to fill the void and keep the bark.

Oct 8, 2017We are so pleased with this custom kitchen island designed and beautifully crafted by Powell Woodworks. I provided some key details that Mike Powell was about to incorporate for this very unique project. Inspired by a previous shaker style build for his own home, we had a few specific challenges that needed to be overcome and wouldn't you know it, Mike was able to meet and exceed our expectations! The island needed to fit within our small doorway and vestibule. Mike was able to build an island that could be disassembled into 5 pieces and easily reassembled in the kitchen. We also wanted hidden wheels. Challenge accepted again by Mike and cleverly incorporated into the base. Lastly, we asked for a pullout spice rack. No sweat for Mike Powell. So the most eye catching element is the reclaimed flat file cabinet. As an avid home baker, bakeware and sheet pan storage is always a challenge. The flat files are cavernous. I can stack full, 3/4, half, 1/4 sheet pans 3 deep in any of the 5...yes...5 drawers. I even have space for oversized cutting boards and my collection of rolling pins. Can you tell I'm stoked?
