Dining Table With Cantilever Base

This Table has an air dried hardwood cherry top that was hand planed, oiled and waxed to perfection. The walnut legs are bent, glued and tapered. The walnut base covers a 200 lb. concrete cantilever. Everything is finished with Danish oil and Liberon Bison wax. The Dining Table was handmade by me in Brooklyn using hardwood and traditional joinery. It is not simply screwed together by a under payed factory worker using particle board made to mimic the real thing. Thus, the value of my furniture is the integrity of the long-established process of handmade furniture and that the materials used are paramount. All the furniture I make are ergonomic, have a natural, "airy" quality and feature a minimalist design. This Dining Table is no different, Its dynamic curves both in the legs and the shape of the top were carved away from the ordinary square format. It measures 80" long 42" wide 28" tall and weighs 350lbs. Process. The first and most important step in making furniture is selecting the wood In person. Each piece of furniture has 3 coats of Danish oil, this process, depending on the season can take up to 2 weeks for soak it to in, settle and dry. The natural oil treats the wood keeping it vitalized and radiant. While the varnish creates a protective barrier to ensure the surface integrity.
