The work of David Flynn is driven by the development of a contemporary visual design language that is driven by curiosity. His work has a strong emphasis on the interaction of color & simple, geometric forms that highlight the beauty of natural wood. With a playful & straightforward perspective on material and a strong value on quality craftsmanship, each piece aims to provoke a lasting & personal connection with the user. The idea of an “heirloom object” is also a driving force in the development of his designs; strong, clean & modern.
Currently David is based in Upstate New York and is attending Rochester Institute of Technology where he is working towards a master’s in furniture design.
His sense of color & material balance stems from his foundation in painting & sculpture. He earned his undergraduate degree at the School of Art & Design at Alfred University in 2012, and soon after became fascinated with the design & making of functional objects, specifically furniture. This curiosity lead him to the School for American Crafts at RIT in 2014, where he sense has been investigating ideas of contemporary design through an immersion in traditional woodworking.
