Award Winning Custom Remodel Of A 1969 Airstream Tradewind Rv. I was hired to design and rebuild a custom interior for a 1969 Airstream Landyacht, from scratch. The aforementioned RV was damaged in a flood so the entire interior was gutted. The couple who hired me enjoys a modern style and wanted a highly functional use of space so I designed a sleek and minimal interior considering every possible empty space as an opportunity for storage. After installing new insulation and electrical, custom aluminum skins were laser cut to re-clad the interior walls where old ones were damaged beyond use by the flood. Once it was completely cleaned out and prepped for painting the trailer cabin was sprayed with silver metallic finish. A beautiful and durable rosewood laminate floor was then installed. Then layout of the new floor plan began and piece by piece new partition walls and cabinets were fabricated to match the curves of interior walls and installed securely with vibration of over the road travel in mind. A few highlights are slots for wine storage, cabinets that glow from lighting within, LED and halogen spot and surface lighting, a recycled acrylic counter top, and custom metal trim work. Amenities include a master bedroom, bathroom, breakfast bar with stools, running water with insta-hot, microwave, and fridge. The design process was rendered in 3D using CAD software to work out all the details and kinks ahead of time to help streamline the build process. Custom curtains and textiles round out the custom interior. We took this Airstream to Palm Springs in February for the 2011 Airstream Life Vintage Trailer Show during Modernism Week. We returned to Portland with the People's Choice Award! Now I'm dieing to build a custom teardrop trailer.
