Sturdy bench built of lumber reclaimed from a Detroit house. The wood shows its historic character and previous use, as small nail holes are visible on the top (see photo). The four legs are attached with dowels and hidden mortise and tenon joints. They reach the top of the bench to display bridle joints with walnut inlays. The subtle angles and simple forms give the piece a mid-century vibe, while the traditional joinery ensures it will last for generations. Coated in linseed oil and finishing wax (not recommended for outdoors). 45.75" long, 16.25" wide, 17.25" tall.

After studying both Architecture and Interior Design, I discovered a passion for detail-oriented design and working with my hands. I founded Hog Island Woodcraft to create beautiful and functional pieces in modern styles using time-tested woodworking techniques.
I am proud to be producing my work in the City of Detroit, whose history is rich with innovations in design and manufacturing. Many Hog Island pieces are made with lumber reclaimed from deconstructed Detroit homes.
I am also committed to environmental sustainability. Using reclaimed or scrap materials reduces landfill waste and the demand for timber. More importantly, Hog Island products built to last. The most sustainable pieces you own are the ones you never need to replace.
