Rustic Farmhouse Dining Table

Farmhouse decor has seen a recent resurgence in popularity, but the woodworking principles behind its design are rooted deep in American history. Dating back to Puritanical times, farmhouse pieces were typically built out of felled lumber and produced to serve a basic utility: feed one's family. We at WoodEyes Woodworks pride ourselves in not only recreating these practices, but doing so in a similar handcrafted fashion. We cut the mortises that join the base together and use hand planes to flatten and true up each piece of timber. These tables are meant to be passed on from generation to generation, and we take the proper steps to ensure this table remains an heirloom piece in your home for much longer than the original purchaser. The table top is made from locally sourced 2" thick fir that we plane to final dimension and fasten together with floating tenons. Book-ending the table are breadboard ends that add an aesthetically pleasing touch and also prevent the table from bowing over time. This breadboard end will help make sure your table stays flat over the course of its life. The base is build from fir that we join together using aforementioned mortise and tenon joinery. Each piece is meticulously cut and fastened to its counterpart to ensure a tight, safe joint that won't come apart over time. We drawbore the stretcher to the legs to seal any gaps. These tables, like their ancestors before them, are built to last the harshest of winters and the hottest of summers. The final finish is a stain of your choice that we seal with waterproof membrane. A spilled drink or hot plate won't damage this table. When you purchase a farmhouse table you're purchasing a piece for life.
