Cat of Treetop Studio Designs, located in the sleepy mountain community of Chester Gap Virginia, is a clay artist who uses multimedia to create unique custom tile and hand built designs that are both functional, and beautiful.
Cat's background in painting and photography infuse her work which focuses on using light, color and texture to create a story.
Cat often collaborates with her husband on pieces incorporating up-cycled wood elements. Her spirit boxes, for example, are a collaboration with her husband, Michael of MW Furniture design. They are one-of-a-kind, each one containing the "spirit of all things: earth, wind, water and fire. Cat creates the "tops using clay, semi-precious stones, copper wire, sticks and other found objects. Michael builds the box bottoms out of reclaimed wood. The boxes have been used for gifts, ceremonial rituals, to house special mementos of a loved one, and to hold ashes. They are just one of the unique finds you'll see in her modest mountain studio and here on Custom Made.
