Sapele Blanket Hope Chest
Chest is made from Sapele, a wood with a rich dark grain pattern, making it an excellent choice for something of this size. Dimensions of the chest are 43" X 17" X 19", the floor of the chest is made using reclaimed cedar that will help keep your items fresh. The lid is attached using friction hinges that hold the weight of the lid to prevent fast closing and pinched fingers. The chest is finished using a Danish oil finish, giving the wood a nice satin sheen followed by a hand applied furniture wax for a little extra protection. Crosscut Joinery stems from a strong artistic family background and desire to create. I’ve been designing and building wood products both professionally and as a hobby for more than 20 years. I truly enjoy all aspects of woodworking – from choosing the right wood for a project through all the necessary steps to create a high-quality, one-of-a-kind item.
I’m inspired by the simple and true lines of the Shaker style but do not limit myself to one type of design. I find that I build what interests me, whether it is a blanket chest made from rare sapele wood; a Shaker side table of walnut; or memory boxes built from interesting finds in my lumber stack. These days I am able to build what I like -- I hope you like it as well.
