Cherry Shaker Style Oval Box
Built in the Shaker style using the same time-honored methods. This box is made from Cherry wood, planed thin and steam bent to form the familiar oval shape. After shaping, drying and sanding, top and bottom pieces are custom formed to fit just this box. The box measures approximately 8 3/4" X 6" X 31/2", it is considered a #4 size. I finish my boxes using an oil varnish that is then hand rubbed to a nice satin sheen. I’m inspired by the simple and true lines of the Shaker style but do not limit myself to one type of design. I find that I build what interests me, whether it is a blanket chest made from rare sapele wood; a Shaker side table of walnut; or memory boxes built from interesting finds in my lumber stack. These days I am able to build what I like -- I hope you like it as well.
