Jonathon launched South of Urban in 2012, during the heart of the recession, with the focus of combining smart manufacturing and traditional making techniques within a revitalized urban core. His studio located in Atlanta, GA is geared towards designing lines of sustainable modern furniture and exploring new ideas and techniques using reclaimed and recycled materials.

Jonathon received a bachelor of design from the University of Florida in 2002, studied at the Vicenza Institute of Architecture (Vicenza, Italy) in 2002, and received an additional degree in architecture from Kennesaw State University in 2009.

Growing up in Miami, FL, Jonathon was exposed to the complexities of a diverse urban fabric connecting numerous distinct and individual neighborhoods. This initial exposure to the idea of a sense of place within a larger whole drives inspiration towards all of his work both in architecture and South of Urban. He resides now in the center of the urban revival of Atlanta, GA where he recently discovered that his third great grandfather also lived and worked as a furniture designer/maker in the mid 1800s.
