This handcrafted Cutting Board/Butcher Block is primarily constructed of Canary Wood. The wood grain in the Canary Wood makes the beautiful patterns that you see similar to that of a rainbow. The smaller side Stripes are made from Bubinga, the larger stripes are from Cherry, and the top and bottom Stripes are from Mahogany. It is reversible. This handcrafted Cutting Board, Butcher Block is constructed from the finest End Grain of both Domestic and Exotic Hardwoods. Each piece of wood is handpicked to ensure the highest quality of craftsmanship while bringing out the beauty of the wood grain. About Our End Grain Boards: To achieve the End Grain, the wood is cut into strips, glued together and then cut again anywhere from .5" to 3.0", depending on the thickness desired. It is then flipped on its side to expose the End Grain and then glued together once more. Once the surface is finished, the End Grain makes the board more durable and easier on the knives, minimizing how often they need to be sharpened. With proper care, these boards can be used for generations to come. All of our Cutting Boards are assembled with FDA approved materials and are sealed with natural beeswax and food-safe mineral oil leaving a silky wax barrier that locks in moisture to prevent drying and cracking. Wood Species: The primary wood used in this board is Canary wood, and the rest is made up of Bubinga, Cherry, and Mahogany. Canary Wood - Native to South America, it is a very large tree reaching heights of 100ft. or more. The colors range from a pale yellowish, to a vivid yellow or orange, usually variegated and sometimes rainbow-hued. It is highly durable and is highly resistant to decay and insects Bubinga - Native to West Africa, The deep brick red color and high density of bubinga give it an undeniable visual and physical presence. it is highly durable and scratch resistant. Cherry - Native to the Eastern USA and Canada, cherry is very popular among all woodworkers. it's color ranges from a Reddish Brown with a golden luster, and after time it oxidizes to a rich reddish brown, similar to a Rosé wine. African Mahogany - Native to tropical Africa and Madagascar, it is generally regarded as the closest mahogany to genuine mahogany. The color is variable, ranging from a very pale pink to a deeper reddish brown, sometimes with streaks of medium to dark reddish brown.
