JGFstudio for woodworking
I have forty years of experience in the woodworking. I build custom designed furniture from both new and reclaimed wood. My specialty is designing and building tables, buffets, bars, kitchen islands and similar pieces. I like to incorporate other craft items (and items provided by client ) in my work such as blacksmith hardware, old glass and stained glass. Once a proposal is agreed to I will provide both a detailed drawing and a stain or paint sample. As a project progresses I give updates and photos of the stage of completion. I have an excellent on time completion rate. Please see my reviews from past clients.
Although I include drawings after a proposal is agreed to if you would like a design prior to signing a proposal my design fee is 50.00 per hour. This fee is waved if later a proposal is agreed to.
John made a really cool table for me. I had the base and some antique wine crate ends. John was the first person on Custom Made to respond to my inquiry and he lives in Vienna so he won the job from me. The price was about what I expected. I popped over to his workshop with my table base and my box of crate ends. We laid out the ends and discussed the wood he would use to make the boarder. He had a lot of choices and told me how each wood would look. We did the "art" of laying out the crate ends together and agreed that it looked great. After I left he did some research and we discussed some specifics before he stated the job. I haven't picked up the piece yet but he sent photos and my mom and I are both really excited. He said that he got the top really flat, flatter than we expected since it was dependent on the crate ends that I supplied and they are over 40 years old with the date of the wine stamped on them. I hope he puts the table on his site to illustrate his work. I can't wait to get it tomorrow. He suggested that I wait a bit after he finished the table to allow the stain to fully dry before I picked it up. He wasn't in a huge hurry for me to take it off his hands.
John exceeded my highest hopes for this project. He was so responsive, helpful, honest, and well-priced. He was also very kind, flexible, and patient, as I wavered on what I wanted the design to be. And he gave me great design advice that I'm so glad I took. Because then I saw his finished product. John is a MASTER. The vanity cabinet is STUNNING. It is exactly as we discussed. But actually, better. Because I simply didn't know that someone could produce something so perfect. I am meticulous and picky, and now that I've met John, I feel like I want him to redo my whole house! I can trust him fully. He is perfectionistic, meticulous.... just a master at his craft. I think he could make anything. Even my very experienced contractor was asking John how he made the vanity cabinet. I feel so fortunate that we hired him for the project. He really made my dreams come true!
John worked really hard to build the table we wanted and was great through the process.
We had John make a coffee table and end table. We had some specific dimensions that we needed, and couldn't find anything in a furniture store. Both tables came out great - just as good as you would find in a high end furniture store, and more affordable! Will definitely be coming back to John for future work!
Overall, a wonderful experience. The table is magnificent. John was most helpful and cooperative every step of the way. Totally professional and a first class job. I am looking for other projects for John to do so I can use his expertise in the future.
