Hand Forged Custom Made Knives

Hi! I'm Ed Clarke, artist and owner of Ed Clarke Knives. I first became interested in knives when I received my first knife from my Dad at 8 years old. It was a Victorinox Fisherman model folder, and I still have that knife today. I worked on a horse farm in Pennsylvania as a teenager, which is where I learned the true value of a good knife (I still have the knife my sister gave me to use on that farm, too). After High School, I became an ASE Master Automotive Technician, and then put myself through college where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Economics. During that time, I also became a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, and was fascinated with the design and function of the martial arts bladed weapons. I found myself collecting knives and one day realized that collecting wasn't enough, so I took several Blacksmithing classes, joined the American Bladesmith Society, and trained with several Master Bladesmiths, learning to properly forge, heat treat, and finish high quality blades. Since that time, I have become the Editor of the American Bladesmith Society Newsletter, and I perform Demonstrations at the William F. Moran, Jr., Museum and Forge in Carroll County, Maryland.

I run my Bladesmith shop out of my shop, a barn that I refurbished. I use a coal forge, a propane forge, and finish my blades by hand. I have mostly made hunting knives, work knives, and some bowie knives because that is what my customers have wanted. However, I am open to and bladed project you may wish.

My knives are hand forged to 90% of their final dimensions, custom made, and hand finished. I also make my own sheaths using top grade leather, exotic inlays, or even less expensive Kydex thermoplastic for tactical knives or EDC knives.

Working with Ed was a dream. He was on the spot with communications, making sure the project was exactly what I wanted. He was cordial, kept me informed and was able to make modifications as the project progressed. In terms of custom made knives, I asked for a one of a kind, and got exactly that, a heirloom quality project that is functional, beautiful and filled with family history! I would recommend him for any blade needs, with great quality, reasonable costs and an excellent work ethic!
