I am a stone carver for the simple and profound reason that it is the stone that stays to tell our story.

Born in Pasadena California 1971, Mykael David has been a visionary artist for the past 25 years. Originally a ceramicist and painter, his first stone work was created in 1994. After a many years pause from sculpture to focus on painting and achieving degrees in: a Bachelors of Fine Art painting (Archaic Stylization & Medieval Art History) from the San Francisco Art Institute (1998), A Masters of Transformational Art (with an emphasis in Archaic Spirituality and Jungian Archetypal Iconography) from JFK (2002), and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (2008), he rediscovered a profound connection with stone carving. He has been actively engaged in making a name for himself as a renowned and recognized stone carver for the past 10 years giving talks and workshops on his unique perspective of humanity’s relationship with stone (throughout history and into the future), publicly performing live stone carving, and displaying his work in his Illuminating World pavilion gallery workshop at clubs, events and festivals throughout California and the Western United States.

“I am a chaostrophy of creative existential movement, potential, and yearning, and my greatest joy in this life, my purpose, is to shape stone into something never before seen or imagined. These carved chimerical artifacts speak to the mythological Gods and Goddesses, Heroines and Heroes within us all, from our ancient past through to the present moment and into the far reaching future. My work will remain to tell the story of this now, our moment, for another thousand years. The stone carvings are multidimensional meditative expressions of the collaboration between the human hand & mind and the consciousness manifest in the lines, the history, the geology, and the journey of the stone. They are shamanic tools that open the spirit of the witness to a world which connects virtually all of human history (and pre-history and future) with the single mind of the individual observer and its own personal mythology. They are historical icons that declare my awareness of the spiritual, sensual, intellectual, emotional, and psychological perturbations surfacing in the current human global endeavor. I create my pieces to be artifacts that bridge the origins of humanity’s conscious creative engagement of our internal and external worlds with the contemporary psyche. My deepest intention is that my work will impact not just the audience of today or this moment, but that many generations and multiple witnesses to my work will all feel a sense of wonder and connection, positive self-transformation and hope, tranquil delight and illumination; that the witness will awaken to what they and their World needs; inspiration and serenity.”

His process also provides a great opportunity for public participation as the work easily allows the student, the passer-by, the politician, and the benefactor alike to add their own hand- carved mark into the work! A mark they can claim will last a thousand years or more! He does love the challenges in designing with stone; to integrate the work into the landscape and blend with the beauty and natural lines of the environment. “I LOVE a challenge that can be overcome with ingenuity, vision, passion, and knowledge.”
