This beautiful checkers/chess board is constructed of solid Missouri maple and walnut squares, backed by Baltic birch, with a border of solid walnut. Rubber pads grip the surface for slip-free play. Choose a carved border for a really distinctive game board, or a solid border for a simple, classic look. DIMENSIONS - Playing surface: 13" x 13" (1-5/8" squares) - Overall size with border: 15-1/2" square x 3/4" thick FEATURES - Handmade in our family-owned shop - Made of solid maple and walnut - Optional carved border - Optional custom engraving: we can engrave names, dates, or a message on the back of the board. French Staunton chess set with a 3" king (king's base is 1 1/8"). Light pieces are boxwood, dark pieces are sheesham. We’re a husband-and-wife team based in Warrensburg, Missouri. We’re both from the Midwest, but we met in Uganda while serving as Peace Corps Volunteers. We love exploring, soaking in the beauty of the natural world, and getting to know the people and cultures we encounter along the way.

We use high quality local Missouri hardwoods and eco-friendly finishes to minimize our environmental impact. We also plant a tree for every item we sell!

Nathan has a background in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, and is a lifelong woodworker. He is excited about our full time creative pursuit based on his love for creating and woodworking and our desire to make beautiful, useful things.

    Cynthia & Nathan were a PLEASURE to work with. I wanted a very specific custom chess board for my Dad with specific engraving and specs. and the throughput was 100%. I was a little bit nervous because I have never used this site; however, Cynthia was extremely professional and responded to all of my emails in under 24 hours. Anything that is custom, they will send proofs for approval. They told me the exact timelines and what to expect and everything was exactly as stated. I am an EXTREMELY detail oriented person, everything down to the wood grain direction was done perfectly. I can't thank them enough. I increased the board size and the price was extremely fair. They will work with you on everything, you just have to ask.
