Custom Rustic Doors
The doors shown are tongue-and-groove cedar on the outside and rough-sawn cedar on the inside, per client's request. Both are insulated exterior doors, but could be uninsulated for indoor use. Shown is one door with removeable inset mirror and picture frame, and one Sauna door with vent and speakeasy-style view window. Doors are highly customizable. Options include surface, color, glass, etc. My doors are typically 2-1/8" thick, which is thicker than normal, but variations are possible. Having grown up in the construction trades, I was recognized early on as having a knack for innovative design, quality construction and a fine finishing touch. Quality finish work is a combination of structure and finish -- It must be both "sturdy" and "pretty." Many builders excel at one or the other, but only a few achieve both.
While I'm experienced in a variety of trades including industrial pipe, metal work and electrical, my passion has always been finishing wood. Highlighting the unique characteristics of the wood while adding a one-of-a-kind color and a durable topcoat to last for generations gives me a special satisfaction. I mix my own wood stains until I feel I have the perfect blend for the material, so each piece or batch is unique. I'm also skilled at matching, so if you need a repair or want to add new pieces to compliment an heirloom, I can lend my services.
In special situations, I've stained wood using natural materials such as coffee and wine. This is ideal in hypoallergenic environments like saunas.
I love the quiet, original beauty of wood in a modern, fast-moving world. It reminds us of the natural world from which we came, and to which we return.
