We are happy to customize orders, but pieces may not be canceled once work was begun. Our Design and Build Process for custom pieces is as follows: This is our general design and build process for custom projects. To order an existing Keefrider design, or to inquire about special projects please contact us. Initial Consultation (Complimentary) In this first meeting we’ll go over the general concept of your design to get a feel for what you’re looking for. If you have inspiration images, dimensions, material preferences etc. bring those along. Initial consultations are usually held in our Santa Barbara workshop for local projects, or via phone or video conference. Consultations at your location can also be arranged (fee applies). Ballpark Estimate (Complimentary) While it’s not possible to provide a quote before a design is finalized, our clients often find it helpful to have a general idea of the cost of a project before we begin the design process. We’ll try to be as accurate as possible, and we are usually within \~20% of the final price, but keep in mind we can’t guarantee a number until the build plans are complete. Designing and Revising (50% Design Deposit) At this stage we’ll beginning working up images and plans. We’ll start by drawing up an initial design to use as a jumping off point, and then revise and refine with you until we have all the functional elements and stylistic details just right. A design deposit is requested at this time representing 50% of the estimated design time required. Design Approval and Build Scheduling (50% Build Deposit) Once you have approved a design we’ll put together a quote, request a 50% deposit and add your project to the build schedule. Lead times are dependent on the current build schedule, but are about 8 to 10 weeks on average. Delivery and Installation or Shipping (Final Payment) Once your piece is complete we will deliver and install it for you, or you may opt for pick-up or shipping. FAQs: I have an idea…can you build it? Probably! Only one way to find out: Let's talk. How long will it take? Lead time depends on a few factors, including how busy the shop is and the complexity of the piece, but as a guideline most pieces are finished within about 8 to 12 weeks. As a fully-custom workshop every piece we make is a unique process, so our schedule sometimes requires a bit of flexibility. Need something fast? Rush jobs are sometimes possible. Let's talk. Our workshop offers our clients the best value possible with a straight-forward labor-plus-materials pricing structure. That said, a hand-made custom piece is an investment that will almost always cost more than something mass produced. Keep in mind: The beauty of a Keefrider piece isn’t just skin-deep. Our furniture is built to last for generations using traditional hand-crafted joinery and sustainably-forested hardwoods and finishes that meet the highest standards for the protection of ourselves and our environment.
