Mahogany And Spalted Maple Chess Board.
I love this tiered effect on a chess board! Felt pads are added to the bottom and an aluminum cleat so it can double as a wall hanging for storage. Squares on this one are an inch and a half. The mahogany for this board was reclaimed from an old ships toolbox that was dilapidated. The maple came from an urban forestry supplier, and was from a tree in someone's yard within Portland's city limits. Chess and checker boards can be completely customized to any color and size. Just let me know.

Cooper Woodworks
Cooper Woodworks has been making custom, unique, and made to order furniture, millwork, and wood items since 2008.
It all started as a kid with a pocketknife whittling flowers and other small things from sticks found in my home state of Wyoming. During high school and college I worked for my father at his welding shop, doing mostly machining. After moving to Oregon in 2003, I switched from metalwork to a job in general contracting. As time went by, I found myself drawn more and more to fine carpentry, and started making chess boards and other items for friends and family. My first piece of mortise and tenon furniture was a figured maple crib for my son. It took a very long time and was a huge learning experience, but so worth it in the end.
Today I have made that hobby into a business that rewards me on a daily basis. Looking at a piece of nature, appreciating it's beauty, and making useful things of the utmost quality with it is a truly rewarding experience. I combine both modern and traditional woodworking and joinery techniques to provide quality pieces in a timely and cost effective manner.

May 12, 2016Considering that I've paid and I've never received the final product, I must give Cooper Woodworks a poor rating. Kevin was super communicative at first, but then there were several delays. Then when I pestered him, he admitted that his employee made a mistake and cut the board to the wrong size. I still agreed to take the board to see if it would fit in my space and Kevin never shipped it to me. So now, I've paid in full and I haven't received the cutting board. Not a great first experience for the Custom Made site. Update: The cutting board came and it's beautiful. The craftsmanship was amazing. It was just the communication that was lacking.
