Maple Jewelry Armoire
This was built per customer request. It is built of solid maple, using mortise and tenon construction, no screws, plywood only in drawer bottoms. It is finished in a clear, no stain. It is 28 inches high, 18 inches wide, and 12 inches deep. The two doors have a vein of purpleheart running through them as do the four internal drawers. The four drawers have removable dividers. The other two drawers have a removable divider in one and a double ring roll in the other. The open area to the left of the four drawers has a solid brass chain carousel with a velvet lined base. All of the drawers are lined in black velvet. All six drawers slide on wooden runners attached to the cabinet, drawers have a dado in them to accommodate the slides. Knobs are solid brass.

I create heirloom quality custom furniture and gifts. I have completed commissioned pieces for individuals and a military museum. Each piece is created with fine details and craftsmanship.
Each piece of furniture is made of the type of wood that is chosen by the customer. I have designed and created pieces to fit customers' homes and have also created pieces that are made per professional plans. I have created architectural accent pieces at the request of a customer who was renovating a historical home.
Customer will also have the choice of finish and hardware. Any other detail requested by the customer will be discussed prior to beginning the actual project.

Jun 3, 2019I had been looking to have a jewelry box built for my wife that we could tuck into the shelves on the closet system in our house, and while searching the web came across a project that Al Wilson, The Oakman, has listed on the CustomMade marketplace. This looked like the best fit for what I wanted so I put together my request with dimensions and some options and sent it off. Al got back to me quite fast and we went over the project and some suggestions he had. We thought his suggestions and options for dividers and ring rails were spot on and went ahead with the contract. Al kept us informed all along the way and finished the project a few days ahead of the original commitment date. The jewelry box was shipped in really perfect packaging and had no damage or issues. And the jewelry box is absolutely beautiful - the workmanship and details are perfect, the finish is perfect. There are small details like the bevel on the drawer edges that really show the attention to detail that went into the box. Al does fantastic work and if I ever need something that he can build I will not hesitate to get in touch again. You should too.

Nov 6, 2020Al contacted me immediately after I placed my order. After realizing we were replacing a hand made jewelry box, he offered to reproduce it. With no photos to use as a pattern, he and I came up with a design and changed the materials used. Al picked up some beautiful aromatic cedar and sent photos before he began work. The final result was a beautiful replica of the lost original jewelry box. Al provided a quality custom product while exhibiting good customer service in a timely manner. I cou not be happier with this experience.

The final result is very satisfying, but I learned how important it is to know exactly what you want when collaborating with an artisan on this site. Al was very willing to communicate and figure out what I was looking for, but I was not always able to make distinctions between options sent by photo or to specify certain details. Luckily for us, Al agreed to revise his work, and we're pleased with the final product.
