It all started with a major relocation from New York City to Atlanta, and the need for a bed to sleep in! When Julia moved from NYC --> ATL in the summer of 2014, John was the only person in town she knew. (Luckily, they got along brilliantly and became fast friends!) after searching unsuccessfully for a bed for her new apartment down South, she did a little perusing of the Internet and its infinite wisdom and decided she would build one herself since she couldn't find one she liked. "How hard could it be?" she thought….again, luckily, John intervened and offered to help. Turns out he knows a thing or two about building stuff. (Little did she know just how mad his skillz really were….!) so they made the bed, and it was amazing. Then they made a pub table using scrap wood from the bed. It was also pretty amazing. So they decided, "hey, let's build more stuff together! We're pretty good at this!" Shortly after this, they got their first order for a table and bench set, and they've been making furniture together since! (And other stuff too, now, like their son, who is due in September!) their furniture is handcrafted, solid wood, designed by Julia and built by John. They like to think of their business as a fusion, much like their relationship, of high quality southern craftsmanship and an upscale urban edge.
Turns out, John is an incredibly skilled carpenter, and engineer, and Julia is creative, eclectic and whimsical. Together they work with their customers to create dream pieces of furniture- from farm tables to bar hutches and everything in between! No project is too big or too small! Julia also does upholstery and interior design work, which makes Deep South Home & Decor a one-stop shop for all your decorating needs!
