Hector Sanchez was born in Laredo, Texas, in 1966 and currently lives and works in California. He is a self-taught realism and hyperrealism artist specializing in wildlife oil painting. His works are predominantly in the medium of oil painting, but includes acrylic and watercolor as secondary mediums.
With a gift for keen observation, and a high degree of patience, and consistency in quality of painting technique, Mr. Sanchez's goal with every stroke of the brush is to create beauty with a dedication to detail.
A close collaboration with the client is imperative to the success in for-filling the goal of a unique custom painting that depicts what the client has pictured in their own mind. Hector can also create scenes that depict symbolic meaning for the client when rendering wildlife. Given photographs of specific animals or landscapes He is experienced in fitting the landscape with the animal. He is also experienced in scientific renditions from insects to mammals.
His techniques in applying layers of color, hue and texture to create the realistic effects of his wildlife depictions comes from an innate ability to observe and translate the three dimensional world onto the two dimensional canvas. Through trial and error over his lifetime he has not only discovered the old masters techniques of glazing with oil paint but also developed his own techniques of application for greater realism.
In his words, Recreating on canvas what nature presents takes on a kind of rhythm and maintenance of tempo in patience. “I am always painting inside my head. Life is a never ending canvas and one of the key factors in all aspects of my life is patience, particularly when observing nature. "
