"Old Fashioned" Maple Dining Table

$3,500

The "Old Fashioned" exhibits warm caramel, honey, and copper tones throughout the entire piece. These colors remind me of days at my grandmas long ago - munching on what seemed like a never-ending supply of butterscotch candies from the candy dish all day. Good times! You can see patches and streaks of spalting scattered throughout the slabs which makes this piece visually interesting wherever you are seated around it. Spalting is a characteristic that is most commonly found in maple wood species, and occurs when fungus and/or beetles penetrate into the wood changing the wood's colors. Nature is amazing. The table was set for a single chair and work station, but can comfortably seat six and squeeze in eight. Each piece is finished with a protective oil and hardwax blend for a beautiful and warm matte finish. Finish will not water-spot. Dimensions (w/ legs): 88" L x 36" W x 30" H All images © 2010-2021 Nicholas Cramer. All Rights Reserved.

My name is Nicholas Cramer
I started Big Tooth Co. in Indianapolis, December 2015. It was inspired by the realization that my passion to create and build was almost entirely missing in my adult life. I left the corporate 9-5 job scene and dove head first into self-employment…and I wish I would have done it sooner!

At the core of my custom woodworking and furniture design is the desire to create something useful that endures the test of time. Every piece is built with the highest quality materials, traditional woodworking techniques, and joinery that I guarantee will last generations. I'm always experimenting, learning, and exploring new styles - so if you do not see what you are looking for in my portfolio, I'd love to create whatever it is you're envisioning.

Woodworking starts with a living and breathing tree. In an effort to honor the material and give life back to the earth, I plant and rescue saplings to replace every tree I use or table I build.

Each furniture design, by nature (literally), is truly unique, and I am fascinated by the stories that live edge wood and wood grain share. While I put hours of work into each piece, the trees are the true heroes. They grew tall and strong over the course of 60+ years, which is some hardcore dedication. I believe in paying that dedication forward by planting and growing my own trees. Trees should be celebrated!

My seed and sapling stock mostly consists of hardwood species native to Indiana. Giant sequoias may also be available. If you are interested in planting one or several of these trees with a purchase of your table, that can easily be arranged - they are my gift to you!
