Wormy Pecan Bench
Inspired by another maker from custom-made, I was given the opportunity to build this for a client in NY. This pecan tree was over 100 years old and was drying in a barn for over 20 years. Eight slabs were collected from the old farm house site out in the country of a sold house/barn and were purchased through a realtor who didn't want them discarded and thank God they were not because they were a hidden treasure. The base was fabricated and patinad to a rustic look to match the slab. Only 6 slabs left that are 4-6 feet long for future projects. These won't be around forever. Most trees this old will be gone in the next 25-50 year or less.

My specialty is furniture refinishing but I also enjoy making custom furniture. Over the years I have been told repeatedly that I missed my calling when it came to the art of wood. I just enjoy any type of carpentry and making others dreams come true.
Dealing with the public all my life first as a salesman during college and have realized over the years that most people are not patient. Quality work is not possible without patience and making sure every detail is covered for pieces to last a lifetime. My pieces are meant to be passed down from generation to generation. This process can not be rushed.
No one is perfect and I don't expect to be, but I strive for perfection in my furniture making process. With a Masters in Special Education and a Masters in Business, I have learned that patience over powers ignorance.

For Rustic Square Dining Table3.8Derrick is an amazing person who took on the project of a custom dining table for our new home. He took the time to explain what value would be best for us. He helped us decide on just making the tabletop and helped us find a supplier for the base. We wanted the material to be cherry which had a few challenges since it was a less common wood but the result was beautiful. We love the color and how unique our table is, including how the base fits with the table which was Derrick’s suggestion. All in all if you’re looking for a person to work with you throughout the entire process, Derrick is the person for the job. We had tons of communication back and forth throughout the whole process. We love our table and it’s as unique as it can get!
