Welcome! Thanks for visiting. My name is Sean and I am the owner of Silk City Woodworks. From a young age I have always been covered in sawdust and truly enjoy the total process from sourcing, preparing, production, finishing, & bringing to market. Lehigh Valley is known for the steel that built NYC, however, a bit lesser known were the silk mills producing fine refined fabric. Silk starts its origin from Mulberry trees and is refined into the highest quality fabric available. At Silk City Woodworks we aim to follow the same process. From origin to finished product with limited intervention between. Eastern PA has the ideal climate for hardwood tree growth yielding some of the best timber in the world. Check out our offerings and bring home a piece of that history and quality today.
Modern and traditional techniques are combined with a little bit of edge to create pieces meant to be one of the focal points in the room. If you see something you like and would like to modify it a bit please let us know.
Our business model is simple. Top quality locally sourced material, affordable prices, old school hospitality, and great customer service (unless you prefer talking to a robot). The whole process is meant to keep you involved step by step with constant updates on your piece. Its a journey from tree to table so we would love to show you how we do it over here at Silk City.
We appreciate your patronage and please reach out to us with any questions or inquiries. Sean (Owner)
Not Worth Nearly What I Paid
For Black Walnut And Steel Standing DeskThe builder strikes me as a good guy. His communication was responsive, and he seemed eager to please, but keeping him in line with my plan was a challenge. I provided a sketch with measurements (final upload), but his drawing in response showed different dimensions. I had to question it and reiterate mine. Too many elements of the project slipped from his focus. I didn't need quarter-inch precision, but he strayed too far from my requested measurements, so I can't use the desk for its intended purpose. I can't fit my piano beneath it, and my easel doesn't go under the monitor shelf. Despite highlighting its importance, the height of the primary surface is nearly an inch higher than requested. For a fixed-height standing desk, that's a big factor. There are also quality issues. The underside of each horizontal surface remains unfinished, and there's a gap between the leg assembly and the desktop that might have been caused by warped wood. You can see daylight, and where the screws run. Messy spots of glue residue are visible. There's a fair amount of wobbling and sway. The overhang of the desk edge beyond the legs is larger on the left side than the right. The two holes meant for running cables are not in line with each other. There’s a blemish on the front edge of the monitor shelf that appears to have been covered with wood glue. And though I provided plenty of pictures to illustrate my color choice, the end result is nowhere near what I requested. There was also supposed to be a live edge, but that didn't happen. A lot of boxes were left unchecked. Pointing out these issues and requesting a partial refund did not initially result in a reply, but after a week, I heard back with an offer to provide a replacement. I now have materials on the way to attempt modification myself, so the end result isn’t yet known, but the builder’s response is encouraging.
Thank you for your response! Feedback whether good or bad is definitely appreciated. Customer satisfaction is our number one priority so I would love for the opportunity to correct these issues for you! I’ll attempt to get in contact with you in the next few days and find a solution where you’re fully satisfied with the product.
