FURNITURE BY CARLISLE is a small custom woodworking business. After many years of woodworking and running a mill work business, I have been privileged to be able to buy a piece of mountain real estate on which I have my home and shop.

I have been interested in woodworking all my life. I started my woodworking career in the California Bay area, creating and selling items from Fisherman’s Wharf and Telegraph Avenue in Berkley, California.

From there, in 1970, I met a Master Woodworker and participated in an "Old World" apprenticeship, working for free, in order to learn the art of custom mill work.

My experience working with wood ranges from logging to designing and building handcrafted log homes, to creating the mill work package for a $50 million private residence located in one of Colorado's exclusive ski resort communities, to a portfolio-full of custom designed and created furniture pieces for clients all across the country.

I was also involved in the restoration of the Beaumont Hotel in Ouray, Colorado. This project received an award, from President Bush in the White House, for the best privately funded historical restoration project in the nation.

I also disassembled the old Rio Grand engine house in Westcliffe, Colorado, numbered the original building pieces, created a new foundation, fell trees and from them milled new timbers to replace rotted ones, and reassembled the entire building. This building is now part of the railroad museum.

I recreated the historic front entrance for the Majestic Theater in Loveland, Colorado. I also duplicated the historic front entrance of the Rico, Colorado County Courthouse. Additionally, I was involved in the restoration of a historic log buildings near Ft. Collins, Colorado.

During my career, I worked in Alaska building log homes along the Kenai River, and worked in the bush creating fun projects such as a log gravity water tower for a hunting camp.

I have worked on many high-end homes in the major ski resort communities in Colorado. I built a contemporary stair case for a home in Telluride, CO, which was chosen as one of the six best stair cases in the Rocky Mountain region. I ran an architectural mill work company for many years, until I decided to build a shop at my small ranch near Ridgway, Colorado.

My woodworking passions lie in historical restoration and furniture making. I enjoy working with people to help design their dreams and then turn them into physical realities.

My work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Mountain Living Magazine, The Brilliant Magazine, Stone and Tile Design Magazine, Luxury Home Quarterly, Kitchen Trends, Metal Construction News, Signature Kitchen and Bath, and the Vail Daily and Aspen Times newspapers.

I enjoy riding Harley's and horses, downhill skiing, and flying airplanes in Alaska.

I look forward to the opportunity of many more years of creating new dreams for you in the worlds of furniture making and historical restoration.
