This jewelry case was designed for a client who wanted storage in drawers as well as hanging pegs on the inside of the doors for necklaces. The doors are book matched from a single piece of lumber and the five drawers have continuous grain. The design, as pictured here, has five 4 1/4” high x 21” wide drawers all solid wood which run on hardwood drawer slides with hardwood pegged sides for extra strength. The top and bottom of the case are slightly wider (by 3/4” on each side) and use hidden brass knife hinges which open 185 degrees for easy access. The solid maple stand is purely decorative and raises the drawers to a good working height. I used the many designs of James Krenov as inspiration.
Finished with 4 coats of hard wax oil with a touch of ochre stain mixed in to make the grain pop a bit more. The size and placement of the drawers can be modified for each client.

I am a custom furniture maker. I work out of my shop in northwest Connecticut and source most of my wood locally.
My handcrafted furniture designs are inspired by mid-century-modern, Nakashima, shaker and arts & crafts designs. I strive to design and build with simple and beautiful lines in mind and celebrate both the wood grain and joinery. I finish my furniture pieces with natural oil finishes, each coat hand rubbed and never anything that will hide the beauty of the wood surfaces.
I work with customers on original designs for them as well as designs based on existing pieces. I develop 3D CAD designs to review with clients. They are always welcome to see photographs of the work in progress.
