Naturalistic Fused Glass Table Sculpture with Hand Painted Details - Out Of the Blue
The Out of the Blue fused glass sculpture celebrates the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the illusive Blue Poppy seeds from Tibet to Vancouver Island, BC. Mrs. Jennie Butchard was the only recipient of these seeds in North America. The vivid blues contrasting with carnelian and various hues of green makes a bold statement. The sculpture is composed of a base layer of glass onto which I hand paint details and shading. I then break up glass that I make in the kiln and place the pieces along with glass frit to create the rich vibrant colors. The ensemble is then fused in the kiln. As a stand-alone piece, it can be placed in any location where it takes advantage of the natural light in the room. The glass is 3/8” thick and seated in a tiger wood base.
