Cheryl Holz grew up in the country, collecting moss, bugs, leaves, and to her mother’s chagrin, snakes and salamanders. Her rural upbringing influenced her aesthetic sensibility, and most of her work today is a homage to nature’s strength, beauty and diversity. She has received local and national recognition for her work, and shows in galleries, museums and juried shows throughout the country.
Cheryl has done an increasing amount of custom commissioned work over the last several years for residential, corporate, and health care environments. Her unusual process enables her to incorporate personal ephemera directly into her work. She welcomes the challenge of collaborating with a person or organization to create a piece that reflects their interest, perspective and history.
Past commissions have incorporated a diverse assortment of materials and images: fishing lures, love notes, wine labels, maps, divorce decrees, quotes, song lyrics, pages from cherished books, wedding invitation, deer antlers, house blueprints, children’s hand-prints, sheet music, maps of relevant areas.
