My name is Mike Monday and I am "The Wood Hobbit". I've been building furniture for ~ 30 years and absolutely love everything about it. It's about the process. Design, wood selection, milling and component development, assembly and finish. And a happy customer. I use a mix of machines and hand-tools. Machines are great for reducing the 'grunt-work'…..milling raw material down to usable wood components…….for repeatable results on multiple pieces. But the real fun is in the final 'tuning' of each component. Using hand tools for the final fit and finish…for getting those tight fitting joints and crisp edges. I sign everything I make (obviously on a hidden part of the piece!) and I want that piece to be well engineered and of the highest quality. If you're looking for Chippendale, French Provincial, or Queen Anne styles you need to look elsewhere. As you can see from my portfolio I focus on Stickley, Greene and Greene, and Mission and shaker style furniture. Even mid-century modern or contemporary from time time. For Tatami bed5.0I purchased a full sized Tatami bed from "The Wood Hobbit"- communication was prompt, the project and shipping was completed faster than planned- which was awesome since I got my beautiful bed sooner! It is not a flimsy piece. When I walk into my room, it looks like a piece of art not just a bed- which makes me love it even more! Very happy with it!

He was great communicating every step of the way from wood choice to delivery. He delivered the frame himself, put it together for me, and did not leave until he knew it was all set up perfectly. He completed the project before the deadline. The price was completely worth the product. I definitely recommend him and would work with him again.

For Tall Bar Stools (Barstools)5.0Mike (The Wood Hobbit) made our tall bar stools wonderfully. We have a bar area in our apartment that is much higher than a normal countertop, and he was able to adjust the design of the stools to ensure our stools are beautiful and sturdy. He sent us pictures of the process and consulted us when he realized the stools could use some extra stabilization. His work was thoughtful and thorough. He was flexible during the pandemnic about shipping arrangements, and ended up being able to ship quickly and efficiently with no problem at all. Our stools are beautiful, clearly of excellent quality, and fit in perfectly with our space. More than happy with the value and quality of work!
